Choosing a Glass or an Acrylic Fish Tank

How many are faced with the question of buying a new aquarium made of acrylic or glass?
I started out with glass and currently have acrylic. I think had I to begin over, knowing what I know now, I would choose glass. More precisely I would choose Starfire glass.

Regular glass changes the visual appearance of your aquarium contents due to the presence og metals. Starfire also does this but to a much lesser degree.
Acrylic is very clear and visually pleasing.

Glass weighs a lot and the silicone seals will over time wear down while acrylic with a proper bond will last forever.
So why choose glass? Well, granted it is a tough choice, but glass has two things going for it.
First it is cheaper than acrylic. This matters less to me as long as I make the right choice long term. But the second reason I have for choosing glass is that acrylic scrates very easy. After some time (a few years) you will be able to see where the sea urchin has been grazing and where the surgeon fish has been rasping at the algae growing on the sides of the aquarium.

True, acrylic can be buffed to look like new.
On a large tank it is a days work and it can be done without removing livestock from the aquarium.
But why bother?

Naturally if I were to look at a brand new acrylic aquarium again I might change my mind. They are very clear and they do look nice.
